Description

Single injection posterior TAP blocks can be utilized for immediate post-operative analgesia of the lower abdomen, however their duration is limited to less than 24 hours. Catheters can be placed in the posterior TAP compartment for prolonged analgesia of the lower abdominal wall. Little literature exists documenting the benefits of TAP catheters, however continuous posterior TAP blocks have been placed for open inguinal hernia surgery and for caesarean sections.
