Description

Thoracic epidural placement is a procedure usually performed by an anesthesiologist. It is used for treatment of pain in the abdomen or thorax. Usual indications are to control pain following abdominal or thoracic surgery, or for trauma pain as a result of rib fractures. This image shows placement of a midthoracic epidural catheter through a Tuohy needle into the epidural space. The epidural space is being expanded by injection of fluid.
